dragon ball curse of the blood rubies

🐉Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies (🇯🇵ドラゴンボール 神シェン龍ロンの伝でん説せつ, Doragon Bōru: Shenron no Densetsu) or simply Dragon Ball (ドラゴンボール, Doragon Bōru) on its release, called in Spanish America La Leyenda de Shen Long, and in Spain: La leyenda del dragón Xerón, is the first film based on the Dragon Ball manga and anime series released on December 20, 1986 at the "Toei Cartoon Festival" in Japanese cinemas.

In a parallel world, King Gourmets is searching for the Dragon Spheres to satiate his hunger. While his two henchmen claim to be loyal in their quest for the spheres, they are actually using much of the power of Gourmets' army to purge the land of the precious "Rich Stones" for their own personal wealth. A young girl named Pansy, who lives in the village surrounding Gourmets' castle, has had enough and decides to seek help from Kame-Sen'nin, the grandmaster. Goku meets a young girl in search of the spheres. Bulma explains to him that her grandfather's keepsake is actually the Four Star 🐉Dragon Sphere. Goku goes with her to Paoz Mountain, only to discover that the sphere has been stolen by Gourmets' henchmen. Goku and Bulma pursue them in a plane, but are shot down by a missile.

A cruel king has decided to enslave all the inhabitants of his kingdom. However, the evil tyrant suffers from a curse: he presents an unpleasant appearance and needs to eat a better dish than the day before in order to survive. This causes Gourmets (the king) to take advantage of the population to end his hunger and cure his appetite. The poor tyrant gets hungrier and hungrier and his kingdom starts to have serious problems. Thus, Gourmets wants to get rid of this serious disease once and for all; he decides to look for the Dragon Spheres.

The film begins with people from the village looking for rubies for Gurummes, and at one point, a strong man decides to rebel. At that moment he defeats Gurummes' soldiers, but Vongo, his best henchman, arrives. He fights against the man and defeats him without difficulty.

Meanwhile, elsewhere, Goku appears, and just like in the anime, he meets Bulma while carrying a fish home. The same thing happens as in the Anime and Manga, only Bulma discovers that Goku's Four Star Sphere is going to be stolen, and when she finds it, there is only a gold coin instead of it. Not far from there they come across the plane where the thieves were: Vongo and his comrade Pasta. Goku decides to follow them but the plane manages to escape.

Later, Goku and Bulma find King Gourmets Village, and there they meet Pansy, who accompanies them on their journey. Later, as in the anime, Goku meets Oolong, who is taken away as in the series, and Yamcha and Puar, whom Goku defeats. Yamcha and Puar decide to escape to where Kame-Sen'nin lives and convince him to assassinate Goku. Goku and the others also decide to go with Kame-Sen'nin to defeat King Gourmets.

Upon arrival, it is seen that Yamcha arrived earlier and Kame-Sen'nin tries to fight Goku, but Pansy tells him that he is good-hearted, and Kame-Sen'nin says there is only one way to find out. He summons his Kinton Cloud which he can't get on, but Goku does. Then, Yamcha escapes the Island, and the Gourmet Army comes to get the 🐉Dragon Sphere from it.

There they destroy Kame House, and a somewhat furious Kame-Sen'nin uses 100% Power and performs a Maximum Power Kamehameha with which he destroys the entire fleet of King Gourmets' Army. Goku tries to do the Kamehameha and succeeds, although weaker.

Then, Goku on the Kinton Cloud chases Vongo, who was on a flying platform, and they begin to fight. Meanwhile, Bulma, Oolong and Pansy scare the soldiers at Gourmets Castle with Oolong's transformations, but then they meet Yamcha and Puar and decide to have him follow them on their journey. Then Pasta appears, who shoots Yamcha, but Yamcha is saved by the Rubies in his chest. He begins to fight with the woman. In the fight she touches his breast, and he falls defeated.

In Goku's fight, he manages to defeat Vongo and goes to the castle where Bulma and the others are. Goku meets the others, who also meet Gourmets. He transforms and there Bulma throws the 4-Star Sphere at him to reunite him with the others, and then calls Shen Long.

Pansy makes her wish to rebuild the village before Bulma and Yamcha make theirs. As in the series, Goku goes to train with Kame-Sen'nin, and Bulma and Yamcha are sweethearts and head to the city.

Here the enemy is no longer Pilaf, but Gourmets. We appreciate that Gourmets' henchmen (Vongo and Pasta), are the result of joining some enemies he encountered in the first episodes: Chief Rabbit's henchmen and Pilaf's two assistants (Mai and Shu).

At the end of the movie, Goku leaves in search of new adventures and, of course, to be trained by Kame-Sen'nin, the grandmaster.

The film was released as part of the "Toei Cartoon Festival" in winter 1986 . On December 20, 1986, along with two other GeGeGe no Kitarō & Kinnikuman films, when the "Toei Manga Festival "1969 was established as a way to show their popular children's series as cinema films during seasonal breaks in school vacations the year. The film grossed an amount of 800 million Yen with an audience of over 2 million people in Japan.

Disc release

Until the Dragon Box sets began to be released in the early 2000s, the only Dragon Ball properties released as home video in 🇯🇵Japan were the seventeen original theatrical films, most of which were available on VHS, LaserDisc and 8mm film reels in 2006, later re-released in 1996 to replace the out-of-print VHS tapes, with a lower price and slightly different covers.

Toei released their fifth and final "Dragon Box", which was titled "🐉Dragon Box The Movies", this contained all seventeen original Dragon Ball films presented in their 16: 9 widescreen aspect ratio. As a special bonus for the first DVD release of the film, Toei included some of the original promotional material from the Cartoon Festival film.
