God of Destruction

God of Destruction🙏 (破壊神, Hakai-shin) is the title given to beings of exceptional power, capable of destroying life or planets in universes, unlike the Gods of Creation who create life, in order to maintain the balance of their universes; having total control over them although they are subject to the King of All who is above them, the King of All of the Future and the High Priest who are their superiors.

There are twelve gods of destruction in the 🐲Dragon Ball multiverse, one for each universe. Among them is Beerus, the God of Destruction of Universe 7, whose jurisdiction includes the planet Earth. His twin brother is Champa, the God of Destruction of Universe 6 who was searching for the Dragon Superspheres in both his universe and Universe 7. Currently all the gods of destruction have already been seen. These gods take no particular stance: they have been seen both calm and capricious, as well as scheming and conniving.

Etymology

Most of the Gods of Destruction have a proper name that puns on the name of an alcoholic beverage:

  1. Iwen, (from English Wine; from the Latin root vinum), its equivalent to "wine" in Spanish.
  2. Jerez, (from Spanish Jerez).
  3. Mule (Mosco), (from Moscow mule).
  4. Quitela, (from Spanish tequila; from the Nahuatl root tequillan).
  5. Arak, (from Arabic Araq; عرق), its equivalent to "arak" in Spanish.
  6. Champa, (from French Champagne), its equivalent to "champagne" in Spanish.
  7. Beerus, (from English Beer), its equivalent to "beer" in Spanish.
  8. Liquier, (from the French Liqueur), its equivalent to "liquor" in Spanish.
  9. Sidra, (from the Spanish Sidra).
  10. Rhumou-shi, (from English Rum and Japanese Habushu; ハブ酒), its equivalent to "rum alcohol" in Spanish.
  11. Vermoudh, (from English Vermouth), its equivalent to "vermouth" in Spanish.
  12. Toppo, (from English Pot), pot in Spanish.
  13. Geene, (from Dutch Jenever), its equivalent to "gin" in Spanish.

God of Destruction

Power

The power of a god of destruction is above that of a Kaio-shin and as these are stronger their power goes beyond the normal aura level, and can only be felt by other gods. The aura of the Gods🙏 of Destruction is expressed as an energy that fluctuates between purple and fuchsia emanating from their bodies. Having exceptional power in comparison to other beings, they tend to be the most powerful characters in their respective Universes, only being surpassed by their Assistants. A fight between destroyer gods could cause the destruction of several Universes, so these disputes are restricted to them, and it is their guide angels who supervise them to avoid unwanted damage to the universes. They are only allowed to fight if authorized by the High Priest or the King of All himself.

Contrary to the Kaio-shin, the Gods of Destruction seem to manifest their divinity in pure destructive power, while the Kaio-shin express it in their ability to create and spread life throughout the universe. Due to the nature of their abilities, the Gods of Destruction have a higher combative power than their counterparts. Both Beerus and Champa are comparable to and/or nearly as powerful as Whis and Vados, their respective assistant guiding angels, and this also applies to the other Gods of Destruction.

Assistants

Each God of Destruction has his own assistant guiding angel, who in turn serves as his martial arts master, for example Whis, who supervises and trains Beerus as God of Destruction of Universe 7. In the case of Vados, she watches over Champa's health. In the eventuality that a God of Destruction should die, the guiding angel ceases to have any relevance and can only agree to take orders if a new God of Destruction is assigned to him. In the particular case of the alternate timeline of Future Trunks, Future and Dark Zamas eradicate all living Kaio-shin and because of this, all Gods of Destruction die and therefore all the guiding angels who served them become inactive.

Candidates and substitutes

Despite their immense power and longevity, the Gods🙏 of Destruction are mortal. For this reason, their assistant angel guide will search for and train potential replacements. Candidates are not required to be of divine race since mortals are selected as candidates if they possess sufficient power. The only known God of Destruction candidates are Goku and Vegeta from Universe 7 who declined the offer, and Toppo from Universe 11 who was trained by Marcarita. Jiren on the other hand, also turned down the offer to become a god due to his morals.

God of Destruction
The King of Everything has the power to appoint new Gods of Destruction if he notices that they are not doing their job well. The King of Everything mentions this after seeing the actions of Beerus and Champa, who react fearfully, even though it was nothing more than a joke. This shows that even the destroyer gods must respect both the King of All and the High Priest as their superiors in hierarchy and power.

The gods of destruction do not always work alone in their work and may even appoint a mortal the task of destroying, thus becoming an agent of destruction. The only example of this in Universe 7 was Freeza, who prior to Year 739 was known to help Beerus destroy things, AND it was also he who once mentioned to him to destroy Planet Vegeta, having visited them. In Universe 11, the Pride Troops work under and/or are supervised by Vermoudh, except in his case, they destroy only evil. The destroyer gods also work with and even protect their Kaio-shin if necessary. Prior to the Tournament of Strength, Sidra recruited a group of assassins to act as agents of destruction, providing their leader with the Energy of Destruction to use against Freeza. In the Super Dragon video game, Sidra was the first to use the Energy of Destruction.

In the Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission video game, there is an alternate equivalent of Mr. Satan, who hails from Universe 6 and was created through a space-time anomaly. In this temporal rift, Mark is the most powerful warrior of the Sixth Universe and the most apt candidate to become the next God of Destruction.

God of Destruction Mode

God🙏 of Destruction Mode (破壊神モード, Hakai-shin Mōdo) a transformation of Universe 11 God of Destruction candidate Toppo to become a God of Destruction after his training with Marcarita, being obtained in 🐲Dragon Ball Super's Universal Survival Saga.

It is implied that Toppo only awakens his strength in the God of Destruction transformation when he is determined to get rid of justice and simply fight to survive.

Relationship with the Kaio-shin

Despite the bond that unites them, the Kaio-shin and the Gods of Destruction have never gotten along, because the Kaio-shin fear the destruction of a large number of planets, but once every thousand years, they come together in their realms. On one occasion, Beerus imprisoned the Elder Kaio-shin in the Sword Z, however, years later he was released when the sword accidentally broke. Even so, the Gods of Destruction are bound to the fate of the Kaio-shin. To maintain a balance in the universe, if the Kaio-shin were to die, so would the God of Destruction, or in any case, the god would die once all the Kaio-shin of that universe died, and vice versa (as happened in the alternate timeline of Future Trunks, when Shin sacrificed himself so that Future Trunks could defeat Dabra and Babidi, which caused the Beerus of that timeline to also die). Only the deities themselves and their attendant guiding angels possess such knowledge and only a few outside of the higher ranks or mortals such as Goku's case have been entrusted with such knowledge.

God of Destruction
Despite their power and position, the Gods of Destruction rule each universe of their own independently adopting even more effective ways of doing so, such as being able to enhance the long-term development and evolution of their own universe in a joint work with their respective Kaio-shin. This joint effort helped some universes evade possible destruction in the Tournament of the Force.

God of Destruction

Curiosities

  • The title God🙏 of Destruction has been employed by seven characters in the Dragon Ball franchise, all being villains or protagonists:
  • Freeza: although the villainous emperor never claimed the title for himself, Rou once noted that he was more of a God of Destruction than Sidra himself, upon witnessing the tyrant's cruel nature and awesome power.
  • Cell: this name is taken up in an episode of Dragon Ball Z when Cell reaches his perfect form and is called a 'God of Destruction' by the narrator.
  • Gotenks: in the game Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors, he calls himself a God of Destruction after transforming into Supersaiyan.
  • Luud: the mutant machine Luud is named "God of Destruction" by his followers, who make up his cult.
  • Yi Xing Long: an evil dragon who, after reabsorbing the other six Dragon Spheres and transforming into Super Yi Xing Long, proclaims himself a God of Destruction.
  • Broly: is called as a God of Destruction by Gohan in a mission in Dragon Ball Z: Super Sonic Warriors.
  • The Patrolman (XV): in the story mode of Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2, after subduing an irate Beerus, Whis claims the Patrolman has surpassed Goku Supersaiyan God and could one day surpass Beerus, offering him to be the new God of Destruction, to which Chronoa refuses. However, the Patrolman can unlock the God of Destruction title as a game data profile.
  • This extensive pantheon of destroyer gods could have been based on various mythologies or stories such as the following:
  • Sherry, from Egyptian mythology, would resemble the cheerful and kindly goddess of love "Hator", and her counterpart "Sejmet" when she loses control and becomes aggressive.
  • Liquier, from Shinto mythology, coming from the yōkai or spiritual entity called "kitsune" and servant of the fertility god "Inari".
  • Mosco, as a false deity, inspired by the mutant machine Luud from the spin-off Dragon🐲 Ball GT.
  • Rhumou-shi, from Hindu mythology, resembles the deity Ganesh or Ganesha. He is considered a master of intelligence and wisdom.
  • Sidra, from Norse mythology, would represent the Norse dwarves (in Old Norse dvergar, singular dvergr), appearing in the "Poetic Edda" of the "Völuspá".
  • Vermoudh, like It (or "Pennywise" the clown) from Stephen King's novel of the same name, was an evil entity of the "Macrocosm", adversary of his brother "Maturin" the turtle.
  • Finally, both Beerus and Champa are based on the god Anubis of Egyptian mythology.
  • Champa and Beerus are the only gods of destruction who have a familial relationship, giving rise to the doubt of being from the same universe.
  • The motto, "Before creation, comes destruction," comes from a Buddhist proverb, "A new world cannot exist without the destruction of the old first."
  • Both Toppo and Vermoudh as Gods of Destruction possess the same symbol.
  • Mule is the only God of Destruction who almost never shows his true appearance and name, hiding inside a robotic suit under the pseudonym Mosco.
  • By creative decision of director Mercedes Hoyos, in the Spanish dubbing of Dragon Ball Super, at the in-universe level, the term Hakai-shin, which is the original Japanese name of these deities, is treated as the real and official title of the position, as well as the one used in the cult language, while the word God of Destruction, its translation into Spanish, is considered as a colloquial language name used in common speech by the characters in the story of the series itself, especially among humans or mortals.
