Janemba (ジャネンバ, Janenba) is a demon of pure evil and great malignant power. Created from the actions of a teenage ogre named Psyche Oni, who was responsible for guarding the soul-purifying machine, which explodes as a result of the ogre's carelessness, evil souls end up using his body as a host, thus creating this demon.
He is the main antagonist of the feature film Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn! Goku and Vegeta.🐲

Fusion Reborn! Goku and Vegeta

Main article: Dragon Ball Z: The Fusion Reborn! Goku and Vegeta.

The evil formed around them creates a giant, yellow-colored, child-like being, who turns hell into his own paradise. Goku and Paikuhan are interrupted from their battle in the otherworldly tournament to fight Janemba. As soon as he arrives, Paikuhan challenges him, but with a single punch he defeats him.

While Paikuhan is busy getting Enma Daioh out of his palace, Goku challenges him. Janemba makes mini-clones of himself, but they were instantly destroyed by Goku. He then uses Illusion Punch, but when Janemba punches him, it is deflected by a ki blast that hits him in the face. Goku throws a Kamehameha that is reflected with Cosmic Illusion and is hit by his own technique. Goku transforms into Supersaiyan 2, but Janemba launches several ki blasts that come out of his belly and is defeated, in the end, Goku transforms into Supersaiyan 3 and defeats Janemba.

Son Goku Supersaiyan 3 hits Janemba very hard and undergoes a transformation into a second form equal in size to Goku. This new evil-looking form appears to be on the same level as Goku, but it gets worse when Super-Janemba uses the Dimensional Sword and attacks his arms.⚔️

When Goku is defeated he loses his Supersaiyan 3 status. Since he is in his base form and about to die, Vegeta appears. The battle is one-sided. Vegeta discovers that he can make portals to other dimensions and launches a ki blast that hits Janemba, but Janemba uses his arm to strangle Vegeta and defeats him.

Finally Goku decides that the only way to defeat the demon, is to fuse with Vegeta, but the fusion fails because at the moment of shouting "HA!", Vegeta had his hand clenched, so his fingertips did not touch, thus spoiling the fusion. In spite of everything, Veku manages to survive the 30 minutes.

When the fusion was over, they decided to fuse again but Super-Janemba would not let them. Then, Paikuhan arrives to distract Super-Janemba so that once again Goku and Vegeta fuse. As Super-Janemba defeats Paikuhan, Goku and Vegeta merge creating the new warrior Gogeta, transformed into Supersaiyan, who defeats Janemba easily with the Stardust Breaker.

Universal Genesis Arc

Main article: Universal Genesis Arc.

In Hell, Dr. W supplies the soul-purifying machine with the analyzed data of Son Goku Xeno and Vegeta Xeno's Supersaiyan 4, once again awakening Janemba in a powerful new state.

Janemba's first form appeared to be quite powerful as Goku until Goku transformed into a Supersaiyan 3 to overpower him. In his second form, Janemba had a very even fight with Goku Supersaiyan 3, but then Super-Janemba managed to completely overpower Goku and was defeated only by Goku and Vegeta's fusion, Gogeta. His reality warping power was able to transform the entire universe in his image (including Heaven, Hell and the other world). In addition, he possesses a great power of the Magic Materialization technique. Janemba's only weakness, which was used by Paikuhan, is insults, which will cause his body to break, although he quickly manages to regenerate.

Techniques and skills

  • Dimensional Sword Attack: Super-Janemba attacks with his sword by passing it through portals in a similar way to Illusion Strike.
  • Mystic Attack: Janemba is able to extend his limbs to very long distances.
  • Rapid Cannon: Janemba launches energy spheres that chase his enemy.
  • Reality Distortion: Janemba is the only villain who is able to change reality at will as he did with hell.
  • Illusion Strike: he is able to open portals to teleport himself or parts of his body to be able to fight from afar and also opens these portals as a defense by opening one in front of him and the portal takes the energy ball to another dimension.
  • Revive the dead: as it is well seen, Janemba uses his powers to give a second chance to all the people in hell.
  • Magical Materialization: Super-Janemba is able to transform objects but apparently only for a limited time.
  • Minimultiplication: Janemba is able to make mini-copies of himself. It is something similar to Little Boo's multiplication, but this one creates them with his hand from nothing.
  • Hell's Gate: Super-Janemba makes a powerful shot through his mouth.
  • Ki Burst: The most basic way to use ki.
  • Regeneration: Janemba has the ability to regenerate after taking damage.
  • Bunkai Teleportation: Super-Janemba can split into small squares and catch the enemy by surprise.
  • Flight: The ability to fly through the use of Ki.

  • Rakshasa Claw: Janemba's special weapon, created from a small mallet, which he uses to attack in a deadly way.

Evil energy

Evil energy is Janemba's true form when he does not possess a physical body. It manifests itself in the form of purple clouds, which when accumulated in large quantities or when they find the body of an individual to take control of, they transform into Janemba. When Janemba's physical body is destroyed, it disappears, and its host is released.

However, in the Shin Budokai video game series, a different scenario is shown in which when Janemba's physical body is destroyed, the host dies and Janemba reverts to its evil energy form until it regroups or finds the body of a new host to possess.👿

His first form is fat and very large. Janemba's intelligence seems limited, because the only word he knows how to say is his own name, but he has incredible strength and certain unusual abilities.

One special ability of his that was not seen in any other enemy, was the ability to create dimensional portals in which he disappeared and appeared to attack his opponents surprisingly. Another curious attack that was seen in him was to create a "copy" of Goku attacking. He also has the ability to make mini-clones of him.

After being beaten by Son Goku Supersaiyan 3, Janemba has a kind of transformation into a being of normal size compared to Goku, with a somewhat diabolical appearance due to his horns and evil look. His fighting level is impressive, surpassing Goku Supersaiyan 3 and Vegeta Supersaiyan 2.

His ability to create dimensional portals becomes more frequent and helps him to do a lot of damage to his opponents. He also has the ability to transform things, such as when he took a bottle from the ground and transformed it into a huge sword to use against Goku.

Janemba Shadowy

Using the power of Supersaiyan 4's analyzed data, which he managed to analyze and collect in his battle against Son Goku Xeno and Vegeta Xeno in Hell, as well as the power collected from numerous fallen warriors, Dr. W resurrects Janemba, causing him to mutate into a powerful new state known as Shadow Janemba (黒くろきジャネンバ, Kuroki Janenba).

In this new form, the demon's skin turns a deep red color, he gets several linear markings on both ends of his face and neck that fall from his eyes, and his exoskeleton turns completely black, with protrusions in some areas such as on his shoulder pads or armbands.

King of Destruction

Main article: Bobbidi's mind control.

Janemba King of Destruction is a playable character in Dragon Ball Heroes, making his debut in Jaaku Mission 5 (JM5) of said video game. In this state he is one of the Kings of Destruction (破壊王, Hakaiō), his pupils and irises disappear and the Majin symbol appears on his forehead just like the rest of the Kings of Destruction.

Janemba King of Destruction returned as a servant for Bobbidi demonstrating his new power with Vegetto, and proved to be superior to any warrior with the evil power he has, taking advantage when the others were defeated. Super-Boo absorbed the Z Warriors and then Goku and Vegeta had no choice but to do the Fusion easily defeating Super-Boo, then Janemba King of Destruction had a very close battle with Gogeta, who ended up defeating the King of Destruction barely and shortly before defusing.👑

The original Janemba had only one host, but in later video games the demon has taken possession of the bodies of many individuals.

Psyche Oni

Main article: Psyche Oni.

He was Janemba's host during his first appearance in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn! Goku and Vegeta. He is an ogre who works for Enma Daio, guarding the Soul Purifying Machine, but due to his recklessness, he forgot to change its tank. This caused the machine to explode and release Janemba's negative energy, which would take control of his body throughout the movie, until his defeat.

Main article: Freeza.

In the video game Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai, after Super-Janemba is destroyed by Vegeta with the power he obtained from the Genki-lady, Janemba's evil energy is absorbed by Freeza. This causes his Final Form to suffer a drastic increase in power. With his new strength, he tries to destroy the planet, but because Krilin and Number 18's positive emotions weaken him, he is defeated by them and sent to hell. Once in hell, Freeza's body not only increases its power, as it had already done, but it completely mutates into Super-Janemba, and fights against Majin-Boo. He would eventually be defeated by Gogeta/Vegetto, sending Freeza, Super-Janemba's host back to hell.

Vegeta Prince of Destruction

Main article: Vegeta.

Later in Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai itself, after Majin Vegeta's clone failed to reattempt to take control of Vegeta, Janemba himself takes control of Vegeta's body, though unlike Freeza, this did not go on to fully mutate into Janemba. He later uses Vegeta's body to fight Goku. After being defeated by Goku, Vegeta expels Janemba from his body.

Janemba Baby

Janemba Baby is the result of the Tsufruian parasite Baby taking control of Super-Janemba's body. He is an exclusive character in the Dragon Ball Heroes video game. He is seen in the arcade game Dragon Ball Heroes on a special Galaxy Mission 4 card. In this possession, Baby gains Super-Janemba's techniques and abilities; and his power would be far superior to that of Goku Supersaiyan 4, Vegeta Supersaiyan 4 and Super-Gogeta. It is believed that the only warriors capable of defeating Janemba Baby are Gogeta Supersaiyan 3 (which is also seen in Dragon Ball Heroes), Gogeta Supersaiyan 4 and Super Vegetto.👶

Janemba Baby King of Destruction

Main article: Bobbidi's mind control.

This is Janemba Baby under Bobbidi's mind control. Interestingly, in Janemba's state he is possessed by both Baby and Bobbidi. Like Janemba King of Destruction, Janemba Baby King of Destruction appears in the Dragon Ball Heroes video game, but unlike the latter, it is unknown if in this state he is also a member of the Kings of Destruction as such.

Janemboo is the Fusion-EX originated by the union between Janemba and Little Boo through the use of the Metamo-Ring. It is a fusion that first appeared in the Nintendo 3DS video game Dragon Ball Fusions, and later in the Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle mobile game.

  • In one of the unfinished versions of the earliest production of the movie Fusion Reborn! Goku and Vegeta, Super-Janemba had a very different appearance, being that his body was a dark purple and white color.
  • Toyotaro, the author of the Dragon Ball Super manga, posted on his Twitter account a what-if illustration of a version of Janemba called "Janemba Baby King of Destruction Masked" that depicts the Janemba Baby King of Destruction seen in Dragon Ball Heroes wearing a Dark Empire Mind Control Mask.
  • Unlike the villains in the other films (Garlic Jr., Slug, Coora, Android Number 13, Broly and Boujack), who start out with a normal form and then transform, increasing in size, Janemba starts out with a giant form, then transforms and takes on a normal stature.
  • Janemba presents numerous similarities with Majin-Boo, such as that both are beings that start as creatures of great size and weight, with a very limited use of their intelligence, moving on to a more powerful version that is more slender and athletic, or that both have faced a different fusion of Son Goku and Vegeta, among others. Although both characters share similar or complementary abilities, they also have several differences that end up classifying them as opposing beings.
