Under Gurene's rule, Akatsuki managed to capture several tailed beasts, and used them as a way to attack both the Konohagakure ninja and the Allied Forces. A fierce battle occurred at Akodo Mountain, where all but a few Konohagakure ninja were killed. Shortly after this, Gurene died after having his heart cut out and was forced to be sealed away.
